Ribble Open Day – Sunday 12th June 2011

We are holding our annual Ribble open day at the Post Office stretch on the River Ribble at Ribchester this Sunday 12th June 2010. The day is set to be packed full of events from practical fishing tuition to fly tying, casting demonstrations, informative talks and the ever popular bring and buy stall.

Bryn y Pys Working Party

Dear Member We are in the middle of organizing a work party on the River Dee (turn o Dee ). This is for the removal of invasive weed species with the main target being Himalayan balsam. In places the growth is so dense it threatens our native species by out competing for space and light ,it also makes it difficult for anglers to gain access to the river.

This is not part of our normal work party schedule,a work party ticket will however be given to all volunteers.

The work party is the brain child of the Bryn y Pys head bailiff Chris Derwent. His idea is to remove as much invasive weed from our beats as possible over a three day period, i wish i could claim it for my own as its a great opportunity for angling clubs from adjoining beats to get to know each other. Chris has managed to get the keep wales tidy group involved who are set to supply a small army of volunteers to help out ,he will also have members from Bryn y pys AA in attendance. In turn i am trying to get the Welsh river Dee trust on board and a group of Prince Albert members to offer our support.

This is a fantastic opportunity to meet like minded people from other societies ,angling and conservation groups working together has got to be a good thing. The days arranged are weekdays which i accept will not suit everyone,they are July the 4th 5th and 6th. I am hopeful there will be a combination of abilities catered for if you are interested in attending please let me know via pm or email. I hope you can come and join us on one of the days as this promises to be an interesting social event. We will also be featuring this project in our hook line sinker magazine in the future.

New Water – River Cleifion, Pont Wrysgen water 260

I am pleased to confirm that PAAS have secured the fishing on the above

From mid May. Maps will be in May HLS and it will be strictly a game water.

It is not far downstream from our existing waters on this river.

Again please do not fish, visit etc etc until your map has arrived.

Ribble, Lower House farm, Balderstone (water 255)

I am pleased to confirm that PAAS have secured the fishing on The River Ribble at the above from the 1st June 2011 onwards. The water will be a mixed coarse and game water with maps being available in the next HL&S in May.

The current club have it until 1 June so please no fishing, visiting, looking etc etc until the 1st.

Hereford Raft Race – River Wye 28th-30th May

The annual Hereford raft race will be passing through out stretches of the Wye between 28th & 30th May.

You may encounter disruptions to your fishing.

Gailey Upper Reservoir

The club have secured Gailey Upper Reservoir and fishing is permitted to working party ticket holders.

Maps will be out in the next HL&S but temporary maps can be obtained by logging into the members forum.

Cound Pool – Invasive Weed

It has been brought to our attention by the E.A that Cound Pool has a non-native weed growing in the margins and all members must take precautions to stop it spreading i.e. Clean nets, unhooking mats, bank sticks, chair mud feet, stink bags etc

It would be pretty disastrous if members manage to spread this to one of our shallow waters i.e Ossmere which is also classed as a SSSI.

We are still gathering information with further communications to follow, so in the mean time please use all sensible precautions to stop any further spread.

River Dee Bryn Selwrn closed 6th February for fly fishing competition

River Dee Bryn Selwrn stretch, near Bala (PAAS Water No 182) will be closed for the PAAS winter flyfishing trophy on Sunday 6th February.
