New Water - Blithfield Reservoir

Six Season Rods at Blithfield Reservoir Trout Fishery, Waters Road, Abbots Bromley, Rugeley, WS15 3DU.

  1. Season Dates:
    • Opens Second Thursday in March 2010.
    • Closes Last Sunday in November 2010.
  2. Permitted Daily Hours of Fishing:
    • Reservoir gates open at 8.00 am.
    • Closing times vary according to light levels.
  3. Taking of Trout:
    • Members may take up to four fish per visit and/or catch and release.
  4. Mode of Fishing: Fly Fishing Only:
    • You must:
      • Read and comply with all notices posted at the reservoir and in the lodge
      • Use only one rod and line at any time
      • Use only an approved landing net;
      • Consult the Fishery Manager of Fishery Staff if you have any doubts about how to fish at Blithfield.
  5. Rod Limit & Booking
    • The club has taken six season rods. These are controlled by a telephone booking system direct through the Blithfield Anglers Office.
    • The number to phone, during office hours is 01283 840284
    • The office is open from 8.00 am on weekdays and from 9.00 am till 1.00 pm at weekends.
    • All bookings must be made one week in advance by phoning same number above. No bookings will be taken via the internet.
    • The same angler may visit the water no more than two times a week.
  6. Guests (day tickets)
    • No guests are allowed on our club season tickets but day tickets may be paid for at the Fishing Lodge.
    • Guest Permit = £21
    • Junior Guest = £10
    • Evening Permit = £12

  7. All brown trout to be returned to the water unharmed.
  8. Membership Cards
    • Members must carry their Club Membership Cards at all times when fishing Blithfield Reservoir and show them on demand to any bailiff.
  9. The Full Fishery Rules are available from the S.S.W. & Angling Club Admin Office and members should obtain and read these before starting to fish.
  10. Booking In & Catch Returns
    • Members must book in using the Blithfield system by completing return cards and record their catch before leaving Blithfield. No further booking will be accepted from members failing to do this.
  11. Boats
    • Boats are not included in our season tickets but members may book and pay for boats at the Blithfield Anglers ssw Boathouse. The charge for a day boat is £16.
  12. Anglers’ Lodge
    • This is an area where members can enjoy a rest and a cuppa in comfortable surroundings. This is purely a lodge and there no booking or admin facilities. All booking in and boat hire is done at the SSW & Angling Club Admin Office.

Extract from rules and guidelines

  1. Please do:
    • Sign in and out on the boat sheet.
    • Complete your return card and let us have it back.
    • Report any diseased or damaged fish.
    • Ensure you have a valid National Rod Licence and carry it with you.
    • Dispose of lines/flies/litter responsibly.
    • Show consideration for other reservoir users.
    • Comply with any bag check request from our bailiffs.
    • Ensure that you familiarise yourself with the full set of rules.
  2. Please do not:
    • Park your vehicle on the reservoir track or slip way.
    • Get closer than 130 metres from the shore when under power.
    • Use any form of bait. Only tied flies and lures are allowed.
    • Kill any Brown Trout. All Brown Trout must be released.
    • Gut fish in boats or anywhere on the estate.
    • Use the trolling method. This is not permitted.
    • Fish in Rainbow Corner when sailors are on the water or cars are in the sailing club car park (map details in Fishery Lodge).

New Water – Talyllyn Game Fishery

Two Season Rods at Talyllyn Game Fishery, Talyllyn, Tywyn, Gwynedd, Wales, LL36 9AJ.

Species: Wild and stocked brown trout, sea trout, grilse and salmon.
Tayllyn is a natural 220 acre, shallow, brown trout lake nestling in the southwest corner of the Snowdonia National Park and below the peak of Cader Idris.  It forms the headwater of the River Dysynni that flows westwards for 10 miles before entering Cardigan Bay just north of Tywyn.  Talyllyn provides Boat; float tube and bank fishing for a good head of wild brown trout supplemented by regular stockings of super quality browns, many from our own progeny.  Fly-fishing only is allowed and there is no anchoring of boats.  The lake sees runs of sea trout and salmon as the season progresses.  There are 14 boats with outboard engines plus 2 Wheelyboats for hire.  Bank fishing is on the south shore only. Float tubes can be launched from the car park.  Adjacent to the lake is the renowned Tynycornel Hotel providing accommodation, meals and bar facilities to anglers.  There is a small tackle shop, freezer facilities, drying and rod room.

The club has taken 2 season rods.  These are controlled by a telephone booking system direct through the Tynycornel Hotel on 01654 782282 one week in advance.
The same angler may visit the water no more than two times a week.
6.  Guests (day tickets)
Full Day Permits £18.
Part Day £12.50
Boat Hire Full Day £20.
Boat Hire Part Day £14.
Concessions for Registered disabled, OAP and Juniors
Free float tube launching (pay fishing permit only). One tube plus equipment for hire at £10 per day.
Ghillie and guiding can usually be arranged.

7.  Membership Cards

8.  Additional Fishing

Please remember if you are fishing for Salmon and Sea Trout you will need a Migratory Fish Rod Licence from the Environment Agency.

Junior Fly Fishing Teaching Day

PA will be holding a junior fly fishing day in conjunction with the Prince Albert Fly Fishing Team at Marton Heath on Saturday 29th May 2010 from 9am to 1pm. There are only 24 places available so if you are interested, please get in touch and book a place.

River Wye Charity Raft Race

This year the River Wye 75 mile charity raft race will be taking place on the late Bank Holiday in May from 29th to 31st May 2010.
