1. Membership
a) Membership will run from January 1st to December 31st.
This card expires on 31st December each year, and does not entitle you to fish Society Waters thereafter.
b) Subscriptions should be paid by the 31st March. Subscriptions received between the 1st April and 31st July will require a £10 donation to the Society’s stocking fund. Membership renewal for 2011 commences from 1st December 2010 & closes on 31st July 2011.
c) Juniors reaching the age of 16 years before the 31st March shall pay the Intermediate membership fee and on reaching the age of 18 years before 31st March shall pay the full senior membership fee.
d) Lost, stolen or damaged cards can be replaced at a charge of £10.
e) An accurate catch return for migratory game fish and membership renewal form (centre pages of this card) must be completed and posted with the appropriate fee (Cheques or Postal Orders ONLY – No Cash) to the Membership Secretary, on renewal, together with a Stamped Addressed Envelope.
f) Alteration to your home address should be notified to the Membership Secretary by inserting a separate note into the renewals /catch return at the time of membership renewal, or by letter at any other time of the year.
2. General
a) Members must carry their card, completed in accordance with the instructions on the front inside cover, when on Club waters, property and meetings.
b) Non-members are not allowed on club waters or club controlled car parks.
c) Members must carry a current EA Rod Licence when fishing club waters. Any member failing to produce a current EA licence when fishing will be asked to leave the water immediately.
d) Non-fishing members must abide by all Society rules. They must not handle any fishing tackle in use.
e) Any rule amendment published in a newsletter is binding and members are strongly advised to amend their membership card accordingly.
f) Every member bears some responsibility for the club water they are fishing. Ask the person fishing next to you for their card, but do not forget to show them yours. If you see what you believe to be an illegal activity taking place, please call the Police.
g) Official club bailiffs are entitled to inspect your membership card and tackle on production of their bailiff’s warrant card. They do not have to produce a membership card when on bailiff duties, and they are also entitled to inspect your EA licence.
h) Photographs or articles featuring the Society’s waters or catches must not be published without the Committee’s permission.
3. Behaviour & Etiquette
a) Wilful damage to fences, banks etc. leaving litter (which includes unused bait – left on bank or thrown in) or any action that will bring disgrace upon or within the Society will be dealt with, with the greatest severity. Loose pieces of nylon line left on the bank are killers to bird life. Pegs must be left clean and tidy and any member caught leaving litter (including cigarette ends) may be expelled.
b) Guns and fires, or any type of light that requires oil or gas, and any types of tin(s) eg. drink cans and luncheon meat etc and glass bottles are not allowed on PAAS waters under any circumstances.
c) Barbecues and all alcohol are banned on all Society waters.
d) Stoves with a maximum of two (2) burners may only be used on waters listed in the club card that are marked with an (S).
e) Tape players and radios, etc. may be used in conjunction with in-ear type earphones.
f) Boats, including bait boats, and two-way radios (except bailiffs) are not allowed on PAAS controlled property.
g) No made up rods to be taken onto Society waters during the close seasons. Feature / fish finding is not allowed on any water closed during the closed season (River or Stillwater).
h) No Camping on any club car park or leased/owned land. (The use of bivvies when fishing does not constitute camping).
i) Dogs are not allowed except with written Committee approval.
4. Access and Parking
a) All vehicles must be parked sensibly in official parking areas only. Do not block accesses or gateways. All vehicles are parked at owners’ risk.
c) Members must only gain access by approved entry points.
Do not climb fences or gates.
5. Working Parties
In order to obtain the maximum enjoyment from our waters it is necessary for working parties to be undertaken. Members under the age of 70 years are expected to give up at least one day per year for the benefit of the Club.
a) Details of the working parties programme will be given in the Newsletter insert.
b) Members attending a working party, will on completion be issued with a working party ticket, which should be fixed to the inside back cover of their club card.
c) When a working party is taking place on a particular water, no fishing is allowed.
d) Some waters will be closed for a period during the season except to holders of a working party ticket. Details will be given either in the club card or in a newsletter. (See pages 24 & 25)
e) New waters will only be open to working party ticket holders for the first year (from the date on the map).
f) Juniors, intermediates, ladies and members over 70 do not require a working party ticket.
g) Members must not carry out any work without official approval except clearing weed from swims and cutting back undergrowth (e.g. nettles etc.). Bushes and trees must not be touched.
h) Working Party Tickets expire on 15th June following the year of issue. Retain and carry your expired card into the New Year unless you have a new working party ticket.
6. General Fishing
a) Members are only allowed to wade half way across a river unless both banks are Society waters. If an angler is fishing opposite, then you must only fish to the halfway point of a river or still water.
b) No angler may use more than two rods at any one time (Juniors see Rule 8f), which should be spaced no further than 2 metres apart and no angler must be more than 4 metres away from rods being fished. Members must always be in a position to take immediate control of their rods. Game anglers are allowed to use only one rod.
c) Members are encouraged to use barbless or de-barbed hooks for both game and coarse fish. All fish must be treated with care and respect. All members must have an adequate landing net ready for use. Gaffs and Tailers are banned on all Society waters.
d) On waters with permanent pegs, members may only fish from those pegs.
e) Eel fishing is allowed on club waters that are open.
f) Waters are closed on the day of an official match until after the match has ended. Any member caught fishing a venue prior to a match may lose their membership. The exception to this rule is that, during any match on Bosley, pleasure anglers may fish the island and areas outside the pegged match area, providing that they are at least 100 metres away from the end peg. Please check your membership card match dates before visiting any club waters.
g) No matches are allowed unless sanctioned by Committee.
h) Grayling may not be taken or retained in keepnets from any stretch of the River Dane.
7. Game Fishing
a) Lead Cored Lines are banned on all game rivers
b) Maggots are not allowed when fishing for salmon and sea trout except when tipping fly at night, where EA authority permits.
d) Trout, sea trout and salmon, but no coloured fish, may be taken from Club waters providing you abide by Society and EA rules. Members are reminded that local EA bye laws override club rules.
On all rivers members are allowed to take a limit of: -
2 Salmon per day and a combined maximum of 6 per
season from any or all PAAS waters
No hen fish to be taken after 30th September
2 Brace of sea trout of 12” or over
1 Brace brown trout of 10” or over
No fish taken from Society waters may be sold.
All rainbow trout should be removed from rivers.
e) Etiquette of fishing all game rivers. No angler shall cut in front of another when fishing a pool. Each angler shall take their turn in order of arrival and must move at least one yard downstream after each cast. Where movement is restricted either by water depth or bank side growth, any member fishing, must on the arrival of another angler, vacate the pool within a half hour of the other member’s arrival. These rules shall also apply to those rivers on which Game fishing takes place during the close season for coarse fish.
On mixed fisheries, during open season, where a coarse angler has taken up residence on a salmon lie, they must under the half-hour rule, allow the salmon angler to fish through if so requested.
f) Anyone found to be snatching on any Society water will be expelled.
g) Junior Members under the age of 12 years are only allowed to fish game waters when accompanied by an adult member, and then they must fish within 10 metres of the adult. The adult member is responsible for the Junior’s safety and conduct. Junior Members are not allowed to fish any rivers unless accompanied by an adult member.
h) Members are allowed to fish for trout with fly only on the Society’s mixed fishing waters during the close season for coarse fish, i.e. 15th March to 15th June inclusive, except the River Dove, Longnor, where worm may be used as bait.
i) On Game Only Rivers, fishing for trout & grayling shall be by fly only.
j) Game anglers are allowed to use only one rod. (See 6b).
k) Left hand bank and right hand bank are located when facing downstream.
8. Coarse Fishing
a) No coarse fish to be taken from any club water without Committee authority excepting pike up to 8lb and 1 brace of grayling 12” or over (except the River Dane – see 6h).
b) All coarse fish over 5lb must be returned immediately to the water and not retained in keepnets. Barbel must not be retained in a keepnet. Special rules apply for Club Matches.
c) Keepnets to be minimum 2 metres long by 45cms wide. Keepnets and landing nets must conform to EA Bylaws (knotless). The use of carp sacks is not allowed on Club waters.
d) The use of keepnets during the period of the old closed season (15th March to 15th June, inclusive) is banned except on official matches.
e) Carp, Barbel and Pike anglers must use an adequate unhooking mat. All anglers when fishing from landing stages must use unhooking mats.
f) Junior Members under the age of 12 years are only allowed to fish the canals and Knights Pool unless accompanied by an adult member, and then they must fish within 10 metres of the adult. Junior Members 12 and over can, however fish all other coarse still waters unaccompanied, during daylight hours only. Juniors under 14 may only fish with one rod. Junior Members are not allowed to fish any rivers unless accompanied by an Adult Member.
g) Pike fishing on Society waters is restricted to the use of lures only between the 15th March and 30th September, inclusive.
h) Pike anglers must not introduce live baitfish to club waters. Any coarse live bait must have been caught in the water being fished, (maximum size 6oz). The number of baits used must not exceed 6 in any one day. Wire traces must be used at all times. We would prefer you to use sea fish dead baits to conserve our stocks.
i) Live and dead baits may be used for species other than pike on the following waters (if open) all year round: – Bache Pool; Upper & Lower Blackshaw Moor Lakes; Bottoms Reservoir; Leadbeaters Reservoir; Leashaw Farm Pool; Oak Bank Pool; Sand and Dovemeres, Shipbrook Flash; Tattenhall Pool; The Moat (coarse bank); Upper Nutnell Pool and Wade Lake.
j) On mixed fisheries, during open season, where a coarse angler has taken up residence on a salmon lie, he must under the half hour rule (see Rule 7e) allow the salmon angler to fish through if so requested.
k) Members are allowed to fish for trout with fly only on the Society’s mixed fishing waters during the close season for coarse fish, i.e. 15th March to 15th June (inclusive).
l) Junior Members must be 12 years of age or over if they wish to night fish and be accompanied by an Intermediate Member. An Intermediate Member may only take one Junior at a time on a PAAS water for night fishing. The rules in relation to Full/Adult Members are not affected and all other rules appertaining to Junior Members still apply.
m) Livebaiting with minnows on rivers – Coarse fishing only, for species other than pike (rule 8i), not to be used on mixed game and coarse fisheries or game only waters – Single minnow only, must be lip hooked, using a single hook, no trebles or combinations – maximum hook size 6. NO wire traces allowed between 16th June to the 1st October. Minnows to be used as live baits must be caught by rod and line only (no minnow traps etc.). Live minnows must only be used as bait on the water from which they have been caught and must not be transferred to any other water.
9. This water is covered by additional rules, see notice board in the car park or at waterside.
10. Maggots are not allowed on this water from 16th June to 30th September (inclusive).
11. Waters under this rule are open all year, however rule 5d may apply.
12. No bait fishing on the River Severn or it’s tributaries from the 15th March to the 15th June inclusive.
